In 2008, Department of Women’s Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, was established and ratified under the Chiang Mai University Announcement on Departmentalization, February 28th, 2009

Philosophy

The Department of Women’s Studies is the institute aiming to encourage and broaden the horizon of academic works regarding to women’s issues. The department is laying its foundation for social change and sexual equity encouragement. It is also beneficial for local community and country altogether.

Resolution

It is the first Department of Women’s Studies in Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) which was situated in the north of Thailand. The department aims to be the academic and research center in the field of women’s studies, and the resource for publishing, accumulating, searching, and disseminating all data related to women’s problems. It intends to create gender equality and women’s human rights, as well as promote gender knowledge application for developing local community, country, region, and worldwide

Vision

The Department of Women’s Studies pursues the international academic standard in order to support and promote research, as well as academic service; to encourage women’s studies knowledge for applying; and to create and boost gender equality and women’s human rights in local community, country, region, and worldwide

Missions

  1. To organize the M.A. program and Ph.D. program in Women’s Studies pursuing Academic Quality Assurance, to educate students for becoming qualified graduates ratified under International Academic Quality Assurance.

  2. To support researches in women’s studies, in order to advance Women’s Studies Programs, as well as promote equality between man and woman, and women’s human rights in local community and country as well.

  3. To deliver academic service for society; to participate community development and strengthening; and to perceive women’s human rights and equality in society in various levels.  

  4. To maintain art and culture, religion, as well as natural resources and environment to beget gender equality and respect in women’s human rights.

  5.  To develop administrative and management systems with good governance, self-sufficiency adhere to the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, The King of Thailand’s instruction.

Objectives

  1. To educate Women’s Studies students becoming graduates who have competence at standard level, contemplation, and sagaciousness, and adhere to goodness, ethics, and public consciousness.
  2. To develop and improve curriculum to be advanced and various, as well as enable to integrate with student’s specialized knowledge in order to promote gender equality and women’s human rights in local community and country.

  3. To support and publish researches in women’s studies, in order to advance Women’s Studies Programs, and promote equality between man and woman, as well as women’s human rights in local community, country, Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), Asia-Pacific area, and worldwide.

  4. To disseminate knowledge related to women’s issues and deliver academic service for inner and outer university’s society.

  5. To conserve and maintain art and culture, local wisdom, as well as social environment to beget gender equality and respect in women’s human rights.
